במהלך הקפתה סביב הירח בוצעו מספר תמרונים כדי להוריד את גובה המסלול וכן בוצע הניסוי המדעי של החללית שמטרתו הייתה מדידת השדה המגנטי של הירח. הניסוי בוצע בשיתוף מכון ויצמן למדע ואוניבריסטת קליפורניה בלוס אנג'לס (UCLA).
