SpaceIL is proud and excited to announce: The name of the first Israeli spacecraft to the moon is BERESHEET

The name was chosen by the Israeli public, after they got to suggest names on SpaceIL’s facebook page. later, they could vote for their favourite, out of 9 final names. All finalists had to be female names in Hebrew. The name BERESHEET (In the Beginning, in Hebrew) won with most of the votes, and it symbolizes the beginning of a new space era in Israel. SpaceIL hopes that this first Israeli spacecraft to the moon will be followed by many more deep space missions in the future.
